・Drawing on GEOFFREY B. SMALL's many years of tailoring research, this is an original reconstruction of the U.S. military M51 parka.

・Based on the original M51, this special version adds a fully lined construction and a fully reversible “2-in-1” design.

・The outer side uses 5 luxurious fabrics made from 4 natural fibers: silk, wool, linen and cotton.

・These fabrics were made exclusively for GBS by Luigi Parisotto, based in Sarcedo, Vicenza, Italy.

・Rather than a single uniform cloth, multiple fabrics differing in weave, character and texture are boldly combined in an advanced patchwork construction.

・The reverse side uses luxurious viscose fabrics by Ezio Ghiringhelli of Varese, Italy, and Tessitura Mauri of Como.

・Turn it inside out and another patchwork appears, made from several viscose fabrics including stripes and glen check, with a look entirely different from the outer side.

・The reverse side in particular pairs the linear character of stripes with the smooth sheen of viscose, for an elegance you would never expect from a garment that began as a military parka.

・Not merely a beautifully finished lining: a 2-in-1 design that lets the reverse side itself be worn as a second coat, bringing two different worlds together in one garment.

・After sewing, at the GBS workrooms in Cavarzere, Venice, it undergoes a hand-dyeing process lasting 10 hours or more.

・Dyeing by skilled hands creates its unique color, patina and soft texture.

・Because the different materials are all dyed in a single color family, each fiber reacts differently to the dye, giving rise to subtle variations in tone, sheen and texture — another defining feature.

・The hood has a three-dimensional structure designed to cover the head and extend down beneath the chin, carrying over the functionality of military wear.

・The front has 2 large flap pockets with a strong presence.

・The back also has an extra-large welt flap pocket, adding GBS's own functional details to the M51 base.

・The different front and back lengths and a silhouette that falls longer toward the back, reminiscent of a fishtail, also evoke the military character of the M51.

・The buttons are genuine horn, made exclusively for GBS by the Fontana family, the renowned button makers of Parma, Italy.

・And this coat has no fewer than 12 fully hand-sewn buttonholes.

・Each buttonhole takes at least 10–15 minutes to make, so the 12 alone represent an enormous amount of time — an exceptionally labor-intensive specification.

・The buttonholes are sewn with the finest pure silk thread from Bozzolo Reale Milano Seta.

・Variations in color and depth caused by hand dyeing are not flaws or dyeing defects, but characteristics of the special materials and the handmade process itself.

・Starting from the M51, arguably the quintessential piece of military wear, it fuses 4 natural fibers, mixed-material patchwork, traditional Italian fabrics, hand dyeing and a reversible construction — a piece only GEOFFREY B. SMALL could make.
